Michael J. Gallagher's consulting practice
is devoted to providing manufacturing companies with the information
and insights they need to make effective facilities decisions.
Examples of recent projects demonstrate how specific his expertise
is to the needs of the metalcasting industry:
- Providing a German casting company with a survey of markets
and competitors involved in replacement wear parts for
mining machinery.
- Analyzed the perceived advantages and disadvantages of
metal die castings as compared to molded plastic
products in similar applications, on behalf of a North American
trade and technical association.
- Coordinated the completion of a comprehensive survey of
aluminum casting companies, and their suppliers,
in Western Europe, for an international company seeking
new business opportunities.
- Analyzed markets for copper alloy base castings,
for a foundry seeking to expand their customer base in North
America.
Mike is also the author of dozens
of publications bearing on management issues and market conditions
in the metalcasting industry. The following examples are representative:
- "Die Casting Facilities Strategy: Putting It All Together"
(with Peter A. R. Findlay), Die Casting Management,
Wonder Lake, IL, C-K Publishing, June, 1991.
- "Achieving Competitive Near Net Shape Casting," Near
Net Shape Conference Proceedings, ASM International,
Materials Park, Ohio, 1993.
- Foundry Products and Markets - A Product-by-Product
Market Profile and Competitive Analysis, Commack,
NY, The Leading Edge Group, Business Trend Analysts, Inc.,
1996.
- "Die Castings vs. Plastic Moldings: Perceptions and Realities,"
Die Casting Engineer, March/April 1999, The
North American Die Casting Association, Rosemont, IL.
Key excerpts of his study of the global
die casting industry
are being
serialized on the CastingTrade.com website.
Mike is well into his third decade of
consulting for the metalcasting industry. For the past eight
years, Gallagher has headed his own practice -- Equal
Parts Ventures. From 1977 to 1993, he was a member
of the Lester B. Knight & Associates, Inc. (Chicago,
IL) consulting practice. During that period, his specific
project experience encompassed a wide range of industries
and types of engagements, including fabricated metals, textiles,
paper, and various industrial services, and covered strategic
marketing, facilities development, and strategic acquisitions.
As Vice President, Gallagher had responsibility for a specialized
international practice area.
Mike holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the
University of Wisconsin (Madison) and an M.B.A. from Kellogg
Graduate School of Management. He served in the U.S. Navy
as a nuclear submarine officer.
Mike is a longstanding member of the American Foundry Society,
and has served on its Lost Foam Casting Technical Committee
(1992-94) and Casting Marketing Committee (1997-present).
