Over the past 25 years, Spain has emerged as an important
member of the European Union (EU), and as a growing manufacturing
area. There is a relatively large auto industry, including
Ford, Volkswagen/SEAT and others, and a nonferrous casting
industry to match. Despite periodic slowdowns over the years,
growth has remained constant.
Spain's diecasters are located predominantly in the Basque
region in the north of the country. Another, smaller concentration
is in and around Barcelona. While there are no large, multinational
diecasting groups based in Spain, at least one Spanish die
caster -- Ansola, near Vizcaya -- has a foreign affiliation:
it is part of the J.L. French group based in the U.S. Another
company, TAFIME, located
near Madrid, is in the process of establishing an aluminum
diecasting plant in Mexico.
