The northern part of Italy has good connections with the
rest of Western Europe, and is the country's industrial heart.
Italy leads the western European countries in production of
pressure die castings, and exports a fair amount of production
-- perhaps 200,000 MT out of a total exceeding 435,000 MT.
Although die casting plants are found throughout the country,
most are situated in the industrial north, and around the
cities of Turin, Milan and Brescia. There are probably 150
or more companies, including Fiat's Teksid
S.p.A., one of the world's most important and best
known metal casting companies.
When one includes ferrous castings, Teksid's worldwide output
exceeds one million tons annually, including 200,000 MT of
aluminum and 45,000 MT of magnesium die castings. Of aluminum
tonnage, perhaps 40,000 MT is in die casting, mainly in Italy,
Poland and Brazil.
