| CyberTerrorists
hit CastingTrade - The CastingTrade
home page was temporarily unavailable late yesterday afternoon
after hackers attacked our web hosting service. (Currently,
all CastingTrade functionalities are "open," with
all information freely available to marketplace participants,
and so we do not use a high security hosting service.) None
of the other parts of the site (i.e. the other pages) was affected,
and the home page was restored after a few hours.(4/10/01) |
| Ariba:
"Earnings Shortfall," Layoffs -- E-Commerce
software provider Ariba, which had been flying so high that
it was able to purchase SupplierMarkets for $900 million last
summer, today announced a loss for the latest quarter. Ominously,
Ariba said it will lay off one third of its staff -- 700 workers.
The Wall Street Journal quoted Credit Suisse First Boston analyst
Brent Thill as saying, "the tech companies are all being
impacted by the same virus. No companies want to embrace new
technology at the same time that they are laying off 20% of
their staffs." (04/03/2001) |

This approach is distinct from public exchanges which are open
